Adopting animals from Greece – How to guide to happy endings.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ADOPTING ANIMALS FROM GREECE

Please be sure to check information specific to your home country about adopting animals from Greece and travelling with them to your home country. This is an overview that generally applies to the UK and all EU countries.

  • You must get your pet microchipped before, or latest, at the same time as, their rabies vaccination. If you do not, they’ll need to be vaccinated again.
  • This is done by the vet.
  • Make sure the vet tests the microchip reading. If the microchip doesn’t work properly, this can cause many issues when travelling back to your home country.

For the vaccination to be valid, your pet must be at least 12 weeks old and must have been microchipped before the vaccination is given.

You must have the dog treated against the tapeworm Echinococcus between 24 and 120 hours before travel

Pet passports are mandatory. The vet will provide you with one.

All details of the treatment must be entered in your pets passport or EU health certificate.

Please make sure to check your government’s website.
